Privacy Hero Change Wireless Channel

Your Privacy Hero router uses Cloud Based router management which means you can access the router settings from anywhere on any device that has an internet connection. You can follow these steps while connected to your phone, other Wi-Fi network, or the Privacy Hero network.

Use these steps to change your Privacy Hero wireless channel.

1. From any device that has a browser such as a computer, smartphone, or tablet visit app.privacyhero.com

2. Enter your Privacy Hero account email and password. Click Login.

3. Click the Wi-Fi symbol.

4. Click the edit box for the 5GHz network or the 2.4GHz network.

5. Select the new Wireless Channel that you would like to use. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

Privacy Hero Disable Wi-Fi

Your Privacy Hero router uses Cloud Based router management which means you can access the router settings from anywhere on any device that has an internet connection. You can follow these steps while connected to your phone, other Wi-Fi network, or the Privacy Hero network.

Use these steps to disable your Privacy Hero Wi-Fi so only ethernet connections are active. This is not a required step just a preference.

1. From any device that has a browser such as a computer, smartphone, or tablet visit app.privacyhero.com

2. Enter your Privacy Hero account email and password. Click Login.

3. Click the Wi-Fi symbol.

4. Set the toggle switches to the off position for the Wi-Fi bands you want to disable.

Why is my DNS showing as 192.168.11.1 on my devices?

· ·

When connected to a FlashRouter’s network the DNS settings of the devices will be reporting as 192.168.11.1. This means that the router is handling DNS internally through the servers you have set in the Setup > Basic Setup section of the router. If you did not set any custom DNS here, then you will using your ISP or VPN DNS servers automatically.

You can always customize the DNS servers in the router to your preferred servers and through DNSmasq the router will use 192.168.11.1 to route these servers to your connected devices.

In some instances disabling DNSMasq in the DD-WRT settings can help unblock previously blocked websites while connected to VPN. This will force devices to report the DNS servers set in the router directly as opposed to 192.168.11.1.

Disabling DNSMasq is not recommended unless FlashRouters specifically advises you but we have seen this work for certain VPN providers. To disable the DNSMasq do the following.

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

  1. Uncheck Use DNSMasq for DHCP.
  2. Uncheck Use DNSMasq for DNS.
  3. Uncheck DHCP-Authoritative.
  4. Click Save.

  2. Click Apply Settings.
  3. Reboot router.

Privacy Hero Bedtime Settings (Internet Scheduler)

Your Privacy Hero router uses Cloud Based router management which means you can access the router settings from anywhere on any device that has an internet connection. You can follow these steps while connected to your phone, other Wi-Fi network, or the Privacy Hero network.

The Bedtime settings feature allows users to schedule when internet access will be turned off for specific user profiles. All devices assigned to this profile will have these rules applied.

1. From any device that has a browser such as a computer, smartphone, or tablet visit app.privacyhero.com

2. Enter your Privacy Hero account email and password. Click Login.

3. Click the Profiles symbol.

5. Click Schoolnights or Weekends depending on which you need to set rules for.

6. Select the time that you want the Internet to turn off and the days you want this rule to apply to. Click Save.

Privacy Hero Safe Surf

The Safe Surf settings feature allows users to block inappropriate search results, YouTube videos, and adult content. All devices assigned to this profile will have these rules applied.

Preparing for IVPN WireGuard Setup

Verify your IVPN login information

If you are not already a IVPN user Sign Up Now.

Log in to your account on the IVPN website.

DD-WRT Router Setup for IVPN WireGuard

Navigate to Setup > Tunnels 

Enter IVPN WireGuard settings

1. Click Add Tunnel.

2. Set Tunnel to Enable.

3. Select Wireguard from the dropdown.

3. Set MTU to 1412.

4. Click Generate Key.

9. Copy the Local Public Key.

10. In a new tab (leave the DD-WRT settings opened), go to your IVPN Account and click WireGuard and then click WireGuard Key Management.

11. Click Add New Key.

12. Paste the copied Local Public key to the Public Key field and click Add Key.

13.Copy the IP Address assigned to your public key and add it to the IP Addresses/Netmask(CIDR) field followed by a /32 subnet mask.

Certain DD-WRT builds will show two separate fields here: IP Address and Subnet Mask. If that is the case set the IP Address field to the Address without the /32 added and set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.255

14. Click Add Peer.

15. Set the Peer Tunnel IP to 0.0.0.0. Set Peer Tunnel DNS to 172.16.0.1

16. Set Endpoint to Enable.

17. Go to the IVPN Server Status page and copy the server name for the WireGuard server location you want to connect to.

Be sure to copy the WireGuard server address and not the OpenVPN server address.

18. Paste the server name you copied into the Endpoint Address field and set the Port to 2049.

19. On the IVPN Server Status page copy the Public Key of the server location you entered. Paste the Public Key into the Peer Public Key field.

20. Leave Allowed IPs as 0.0.0.0/0. Set Router Allowed IP’s via tunnel to Enable. Set Persistent Keep Alive to 25.

21. At the bottom of the page click Save and then click Apply Settings.

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

Set Static DNS 1 to 172.16.0.1

Set Static DNS 2 to 198.245.51.147

Reboot the FlashRouter

Navigate to Administration > Management

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the red Reboot Router button. Wait for the FlashRouter to reboot and then reconnect.

Verify a successful IVPN connection

Navigate to Setup > Tunnels

  1. You should Endpoint, Latest handshake, and Transfer in the WireGuard status area.
  2. Visit IVPN’s website to verify your status as using IVPN.

Back up your settings

Navigate to Administration > Backup

  1. Click the Backup button.
  2. A file named nvrambak.bin will be saved to your computer.
  3. You can load nvrambak.bin to restore your settings in the event of a reset.

Windscribe WireGuard Setup

Preparing for Windscribe WireGuard Setup

Verify your Windscribe login information

If you are not already a Windscribe user Sign Up Now.

Log in to your account on the Windscribe website.

Go to the Windscribe WireGuard config generator page and select the Server location and Port you would like to use. Click Download Config.

Open the .conf file that is downloaded using Notepad in Windows or TextEdit in Mac.

Navigate to Setup > Tunnels

1. Click Add Tunnel.

2. Set Tunnel to Enable.

3. Set CVE-2019-14899 Mitigation to Enable. Set NAT via Tunnel to Enable. Set Local Port to 51820. Set MTU to 1420.

4. Check Firewall inbound and Kill Switch.

5. Set Advanced Settings to Enable and copy the PrivateKey from the .conf file and paste it into the Local Private Key field.

6. Click Add Peer.

7. Set Peer Tunnel IP to 0.0.0.0. Set Peer Tunnel DNS to the DNS found in the .conf file.

8. Set Endpoint to Enable. Copy and Paste the Endpoint from the .conf file and paste it into the Endpoint Address field. Enter the same Port that appears next to the Endpoint.

9. Leave Allowed IPs as 0.0.0.0/0. Set Router Allowed IP’s via tunnel to Enable. Set Persistent Keep Alive to 25.

10. Copy and Paste the PublicKey from the .conf file and paste it into the Peer Public Key field.

11. Set Use Pre-shared Key to Enable. Copy and Paste the Presharedkey from the .conf file and paste it into the Pre-Shared Key field.

12. Copy the Address from the .conf file and paste it into the IP Addresses/Netmask(CIDR) field.

Why can’t I connect to WiFi using the WPS button feature?

DD-WRT firmware automatically disables the WPS feature as it is a known security vulnerability. This makes your router more secure with DD-WRT than with factory firmware.

For any device that uses a WPS WiFi connection there should always be an alternate method to connect the device via WiFi.

My 5.0GHz network is not showing up

Verify the device supports 5GHz

5.0GHz networks are not compatible with all devices so first make sure that you device’s wireless adapter supports 5GHz wireless frequencies.

If you are not sure, find out if your device support 5 GHz via Google search or by looking in the wireless hardware details in the device’s network settings. If you see Wireless a/b/g/n support then you have a compatible device. If you are missing the Wireless a then this means there is no 5 GHz support.

Enter the recommended wireless settings

Our team has tested the wireless functionality for each FlashRouter that we offer and shared our recommended wireless settings in our Wifi Setup area. Replicate the settings for your FlashRouter model found on that page.

Lower the wireless channel

Some devices do support 5.0GHz connections but not the higher channels that DD-WRT firmware offers.

Navigate to Wireless > Basic Settings

Lower the wireless channel setting for the 5.0GHz band that is not showing. Based on our tests the most broadly compatible channels are 36, 48 and 161.

Refresh your device's network adapter

The easiest way to accomplish this is by rebooting your device as the settings to reset your adapter may vary on all types of internet connected devices.

My 2.4GHz network is not showing up

If you ever have an issue with WiFi, you can always wire directly into the FlashRouter to verify and/or update your current WiFi settings.

Enter the recommended wireless settings

Our team has tested the wireless functionality for each FlashRouter that we offer and shared our recommended wireless settings in our Wifi Setup area. Replicate the settings for your FlashRouter model found on that page if the 2.4GHz is not showing.

Change the wireless channel

Navigate to Wireless > Basic Settings

Change the wireless channel setting for the 2.4GHz band that is not appearing. The most broadly compatible channels are 6 and 11.

CLICK APPLY SETTINGS

Refresh your device's network adapter

In rare instances the wireless adapter for your device may stop picking up WiFi networks and must be reset. This will be different for each device, that is why the best way to refresh your wireless adapter is to simply reboot any device in question and see if the adapter now picks up your WiFi networks.

Navigate to Status > Wireless

Wireless Client Bridge Setup

If you need to extend your wired connection capabilities and you are not able to wire directly into your main router, you can setup a FlashRouter as a Wireless Client Bridge. In Wireless Client Bridge mode the FlashRouter connects to your main router via WiFi, and then transmits your internet signal via the FlashRouter LAN ports for wired internet access anywhere in your home or office.

Preparing for Wireless Client Bridge Setup

Verify your wireless information

In order to setup your FlashRouter as a Wireless Client Bridge, you will need the exact SSID and password of your existing wireless network. Make sure you have this information before proceeding.

We recommend using a 2.4GHz network to repeat as this network will have more range.

Locate the Local IP Address of the existing wireless network

Locate the Local IP Address of the existing router that the FlashRouter will be bridged to.

DD-WRT Router Setup for Wireless Client Bridge

Disable Firewall

Navigate to Security > Firewall

  1. Set SPI Firewall to Disable.
  2. Uncheck all boxes except for Filter Multicast.
  3. Click Save.

Disable DNSmasq

Navigate to Services > Services

  1. Set DNSmasq to Disable.
  2. Click Save.

Enter Wireless settings

Navigate to Wireless > Basic Settings

Wireless Client Bridge Setup on FlashRouter DD-WRT - Set Wireless Mode to Client Bridge
  1. In the Wireless Physical Interface settings for the 2.4GHz network set the Wireless Mode to Client Bridge.
  2. Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) to match exactly with the Wireless Network Name of the network that you will bridge to.
  3. Click Save.

Enter Wireless Security settings

Navigate to Wireless > Wireless Security

  1. Change the WPA Shared Key to match exactly with the Wireless Password of the network that you will bridge to.
  2. Click Save.

Change the FlashRouter's Local IP Address

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

  1. Set the Local IP Address to a different address on the same subnet as the existing network that you noted early. (example: if the existing network is 192.168.1.1 then set the Local IP Address to 192.168.1.2)
  2. Set the Gateway to the Local IP Address of the existing network. (example: 192.168.1.1)
  3. Set the Local DNS to the Local IP Address of the existing network. (example: 192.168.1.1)
  4. Click Apply Settings.

Reboot your FlashRouter

Power off the FlashRouter for 30 seconds and then power it back on. When it boots back up you will be able to access the FlashRouter’s settings at the new Local IP Address that you set. Your existing network and the FlashRouter’s network will now be bridged wirelessly.

Your FlashRouter is now providing wired connection access to your main router network. Wireless connections to the FlashRouter are disabled in this setup.

Back up your settings

Navigate to Administration > Backup

  1. Click the Backup button.
  2. A file named nvrambak.bin will be saved to your computer.
  3. You can load nvrambak.bin to restore your settings in the event of a reset.

Parental Controls on Roqos

The Roqos Core includes a suite of user access settings which can be used as Parental Controls.
You can create individual user profiles and assign specific devices. Using these profiles you can restrict access, block certain content, or even monitor internet usage if you choose to do so.

Create User Profiles

  1. Using the navigation pane on the left of the screen, select USERS.
  2. Select the ADD USER button at the top of the menu.
  3. Create a name to identify the user. You may also add a photo or picture to associate with this user however this is optional.
  4. Select the SAVE button at the bottom of the menu.

Assign Devices

  1. Once you have created a user, you must assign one or more devices to the user.
  2. Using the navigation pane on the left of the screen, select USERS. Choose a user from the list.
  3. You are now in the USER/GROUP PROFILE menu.
  1. Select DEVICES.
  2. Select ADD DEVICE.
  1. The ADD DEVICES menu lists all devices which are currently or previously connected to the Roqos. You cannot assign a device to a user unless it has been connected to the Roqos. 
  2. Use the check box to select one or more devices and then select the SAVE button to assign the device to the user.

A device can only be assigned to one user. Access restrictions you place on a user such as scheduled internet access or content restriction will apply to all devices assigned to that user regardless of who in your home is actually using the device at that time.

Turn Off Internet Access

  1. Using the navigation pane on the left of the screen, select USERS. Choose a user from the list
  2. You are now in the USER/GROUP PROFILE menu
  3. Use the PAUSE button next to the user’s name to halt all internet access to the devices assigned to this user. Conversely, you can restore internet access by pushing the PLAY button here as well.

Schedule Internet Access

  1. Using the navigation pane on the left of the screen, select USERS. Choose a user from the list.
  2. You are now in the USER/GROUP PROFILE menu.
  3. Select SCHEDULE PAUSES. You can create multiple schedules for each user to pause their internet access on a daily recurring basis for every day of the week.

Enable Content Filters

  1. Using the navigation pane on the left of the screen, select USERS. Choose a user from the list.
  2. You are now in the USER/GROUP PROFILE menu.
  3. Select FILTER. Use existing category and content filters provided by Roqos and customize with your own blocked and allowed site lists.
  4. Select SAVE.

Monitor Internet Usage

  1. Using the navigation pane on the left of the screen, select USERS. Choose a user from the list.
  2. You are now in the USER/GROUP PROFILE menu.
  3. Select USAGE HISTORY. Access usage data for all devices assigned to this user. This includes websites visited and activity times.

Please note that in order to collect device information, you must enable this functionality on your Roqos. It is disabled by default.

  1. Using the navigation pane on the left of the screen, select ADVANCED SETTINGS.
  2. Select MISCELLANEOUS.
  3. Activate the COLLECT USER INTERNET USAGE and COLLECT DEVICE DATA USAGE options.

Set a Static IP for your connected devices on Roqos

By assigning specific Static IP addresses to your devices you can better manage your network and make sure they connect with the same Local IP Address each time they connect to your Roqos.

Login to Roqos Core UI web app in a browser on any computer or smart device.

1. Click the navigation menu and select Basic Settings > LAN Settings.

2. Click Static IP Assignments.

3. Click Add Assignment.

4. Toggle the device hat you want to set a Static IP for and then enter 192.168.23.x with x being any number between 2 and 254. Click Save.

Now, every time the device connects to the Roqos network it will be assigned the same Static IP address on the Local network.
