If you wish to disable your VPN connection simply set this to Disable at any time and click Apply Settings.

Verify a successful IPVanish connection

Navigate to Status > OpenVPN

You should now see a CONNECTED SUCCESS message.
Visit IPVanish’s IP Check to verify your new IP address and virtual location.

In some cases you may notice that the location is not showing the same location as the server you have input in your router settings; this is because geo tracking tools are often tricked by VPN connections. As long as you see an IP address that is not the same as your normal Internet IP address then you are indeed connected to IPVanish.

Back up your settings

Navigate to Administration > Backup.

Click the Backup button.
A file named nvrambak.bin will be saved to your computer.
You can load nvrambak.bin to restore your settings in the event of a reset.

How to change the IPVanish server

Copy the new IPVanish server address from the above server list.
Paste the server into the Server IP/Name field.
Click Apply Settings.

Preparing for Manual NordVPN Setup

Verify your NordVPN login information

If you are not already an NordVPN user Sign Up Now.

Log in to your account on the NordVPN website.

NordVPN Server Addresses

For a NordVPN server recommendation visit their Recommend Server page.

Once you have selected the server you want to connect to, download the UDP .ovpn file containing the Server IP Address, TLS Auth Key, and CA Cert referenced below.

Open the .ovpn file that is downloaded to your computer with NotePad++ for Windows or TextEdit for Apple. You will only need the Server IP Address, TLS Auth Key, and CA Cert from this file. All NordVPN servers and .ovpn files have different IP Addresses, keys, and certificates.

How to change the NordVPN server

Download and open a new .ovpn file from NordVPN.
Copy and paste the server IP Address into the Server IP/Name field.
Copy and paste the TLS Auth Key into the TLS Auth Key field.
Copy and paste the CA Cert into the CA Cert field.
Click Apply Settings.

Why is my Time Zone set to Europe/Berlin?

Europe/Berlin is the default Time Zone setting for DD-WRT firmware.

To change this to your location’s actual Time Zone do the following.

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

Select your actual Time Zone from the dropdown field. Leave the Server IP/Name field blank.

CLICK APPLY SETTINGS

The network may reboot for a moment. Simply reconnect when it is back up.

Disabling the NTP Client setting will result in the VPN connection not working so we ask that you please leave it enabled at all times.

Windscribe WireGuard Setup

Preparing for Windscribe WireGuard Setup

Verify your Windscribe login information

If you are not already a Windscribe user Sign Up Now.

Log in to your account on the Windscribe website.

Go to the Windscribe WireGuard config generator page and select the Server location and Port you would like to use. Click Download Config.

Open the .conf file that is downloaded using Notepad in Windows or TextEdit in Mac.

Navigate to Setup > Tunnels

Enter Winscribe WireGuard settings

1. Click Add Tunnel.

2. Set Tunnel to Enable.

3. Select Wireguard from the dropdown.

3. Set CVE-2019-14899 Mitigation to Enable. Set NAT via Tunnel to Enable. Set Local Port to 51820. Set MTU to 1420.

4. Check Firewall inbound and Kill Switch.

5. Set Advanced Settings to Enable and copy the PrivateKey from the .conf file and paste it into the Local Private Key field.

6. Click Add Peer.

7. Set Peer Tunnel IP to 0.0.0.0. Set Peer Tunnel DNS to the DNS found in the .conf file.

8. Set Endpoint to Enable. Copy and Paste the Endpoint from the .conf file and paste it into the Endpoint Address field. Enter the same Port that appears next to the Endpoint.

9. Leave Allowed IPs as 0.0.0.0/0. Set Router Allowed IP’s via tunnel to Enable. Set Persistent Keep Alive to 25.

10. Copy and Paste the PublicKey from the .conf file and paste it into the Peer Public Key field.

11. Set Use Pre-shared Key to Enable. Copy and Paste the Presharedkey from the .conf file and paste it into the Pre-Shared Key field.

12. Copy the Address from the .conf file and paste it into the IP Addresses/Netmask(CIDR) field.

Certain DD-WRT builds will show two separate fields here: IP Address and Subnet Mask. If that is the case set the IP Address field to the Address without the /32 added and set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.255

21. At the bottom of the page click Save and then click Apply Settings.

Verify a successful Winscribe connection

Navigate to Setup > Tunnels

You should Endpoint, Latest handshake, and Transfer in the WireGuard status area.
Visit whatismyipaddress.com to verify your status as using Winscribe.

Back up your settings

Navigate to Administration > Backup

Click the Backup button.

You can load nvrambak.bin to restore your settings in the event of a reset.

Obtain your CyberGhost OpenVPN Information

If you are not already a CyberGhost user Sign Up Now.

1. Log in to your account on the CyberGhost website.

2. Select My Devices.

3. Select Other and then Configure New Device.

4. Set Protocol to OpenVPN. Select the Country you would like to connect to. Select the Server Group. Name the device in the Device Name field. Click Save Configuration.

6. Copy the Username, and Password that appear to a notepad, since you will need this information later in the setup process. Click Download Configuration.

Obtain your AirVPN OpenVPN Information

If you are not already a AirVPN user Sign Up Now.

1. Log in to your account on the AirVPN website.

5. Select a Protocol under the Protocols section. We recommend UDP.

6. Select one option under the Choose Servers section. AirVPN sorts these servers by Planet, Continent, Country, and Single servers. Choose whichever best suits your needs.

Preparing for ProtonVPN WireGuard Setup

Verify your ProtonVPN login information

If you are not already a ProtonVPN user Sign Up Now.

Log in to your account on the ProtonVPN website.

1. On the left hand side select Downloads.

2. Then select WireGuard Configuration.

3. Enter the Device Name to assign the FlashRouter to identify it among your ProtonVPN connections.

4. Set the Device platform as Router.

5. Select the VPN Options that you would like to connect with.

6. ProtonVPN will recommend the ideal server for you to connect to based on your location. Click Create or scroll down and select the server you wish to connect to and click Create next to the server number.

7. Click Download to download the .conf file of the server you selected.

DD-WRT Router Setup for ProtonVPN WireGuard

Navigate to Setup > Tunnels

Enter ProtonVPN WireGuard settings

1. Click Import Config and then select Choose file. Select the .conf file that was downloaded earlier.

PPPoE Internet Setup

Most ISPs do not require PPPoE credentials. If you are certain this is an ISP requirement in your setup, we kindly ask that you get in touch with your ISP to verify that they do in fact require PPPoE authentication and to provide you with the correct credentials to enter into your FlashRouter.

Before you enter your PPPoE credentials, you should have already setup your FlashRouter in a Single Router Setup with correct wiring. Once you enter PPPoE credentials you should then be able to connect to the internet.

If you are using a Dual Router Setup there is no need to enter PPPoE credentials if they are already entered in the existing router. You can disregard this article.

Enter your PPPoE credentials

DD-WRT Firmware

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

Access FlashRouters DD-WRT Admin Settings - Enter PPPOE Username and Password

Set the Connection Type dropdown to PPPoE.
Enter your ISP assigned PPPoE username and password.
Click Apply Settings.

Power cycle your network devices

Power off your ISP modem and the FlashRouter.
Power on the ISP modem and wait for it to fully boot up.
Power on the FlashRouter.

Verify a successful Internet connection

Once the FlashRouter is booted up connect one of your devices to the FlashRouter via Ethernet or Wireless.

Visit any website and make sure the page fully loads. Once you have verified a successful Internet connection, begin connecting your network devices to the FlashRouter via wired or WiFi.

Please be aware that our support is not able to replicate PPPoE issues on our end, which makes them challenging to troubleshoot. In the event of an issue we recommend using a Dual Router Setup.

My 5.0GHz network is not showing up

Verify the device supports 5GHz

5.0GHz networks are not compatible with all devices so first make sure that you device’s wireless adapter supports 5GHz wireless frequencies.

If you are not sure, find out if your device support 5 GHz via Google search or by looking in the wireless hardware details in the device’s network settings. If you see Wireless a/b/g/n support then you have a compatible device. If you are missing the Wireless a then this means there is no 5 GHz support.

Enter the recommended wireless settings

Our team has tested the wireless functionality for each FlashRouter that we offer and shared our recommended wireless settings in our Wifi Setup area. Replicate the settings for your FlashRouter model found on that page.

Lower the wireless channel

Some devices do support 5.0GHz connections but not the higher channels that DD-WRT firmware offers.

Navigate to Wireless > Basic Settings

Lower the wireless channel setting for the 5.0GHz band that is not showing. Based on our tests the most broadly compatible channels are 36, 48 and 161.

Wireless Guest Network Setup – Bridged (Advanced)

If you would like to prevent visitors from connecting to your main WiFi network then you can create a Bridged Guest Network that will prevent access to the main router. This setup also allows you to create different rules for different WiFi SSID’s in your home ranging from QoS controls, access restrictions, VPN network segmentation, and more.

Preparing for Wireless Guest Network Setup

If you have a Dual-band or Tri-Band router you can setup a WiFi Guest Network, creating a separate VLAN (virtual local area network) for your visitors, or in order to segment your VPN networks on any band you like. We recommend using the 2.4GHz network for your DD-WRT Guest Wireless Network so it is compatible with the most possible WiFi devices. Setting up a guest network for visitors in your home allows you to keep them off of your main WiFi network.

We recommend performing this setup while connected to the FlashRouter via ethernet cable. If your computer does not have an ethernet port and you must proceed via wireless connection to the FlashRouter pay attention to the wireless connection as you may need to rejoin the FlashRouter’s network after making changes.

DD-WRT Router Setup for Wireless Guest Network

Enter Wireless settings

Navigate to Wireless > Basic Settings

Bridged Wireless Guest Network Setup on DD-WRT FlashRouter – Setting SSID for Guest Network

Under the 2.4GHz or 5GHz Interface click the Add button.
In the Wireless Network Name (SSID) field enter the unique network name of the guest network.
Click Save.

Bridged Wireless Guest Network Setup on DD-WRT FlashRouter – Setting Guest Network Wireless Password

Duplicate the wireless security settings that are set for the other bands for the newly created virtual interface.

Create Bridge

Navigate to Setup > Networking

Under Create Bridge click Add. Name the newly created bridge br1.
Click Apply Settings

Bridged Wireless Guest Network Setup on DD-WRT FlashRouter – Assign Bridge

Under Assign to Bridge select br1 from the Assignment dropdown. Select wl1.1 or ath1.1 depending on your router model.
Click Apply Settings.

Depending on the router model and WiFi band you are using, the wireless interfaces will be labelled differently.

This setting can be labelled wl1.1, ath0.1, wl2.1, and so on. Make sure when you get up to the bridge assignment section that you are using the correct guest network Virtual Interface.

Bridged Wireless Guest Network Setup on DD-WRT FlashRouter – Configure Bridge DNS Redirection

Under Network Configuration br1 select Enable for Forced DNS Redirection.
Set Optional DNS Target to 208.67.220.220
Set IP Address to 192.168.12.1
Set Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Click Apply Settings.

Multiple DHCP Server

Bridged Wireless Guest Network Setup on DD-WRT FlashRouter – Configure DHCP Server Settings

Under Multiple DHCP Server click Add.
Set the first dropdown to br1.
Click Apply Settings.
Reboot your router.

Firewall Rules

Navigate to Administration > Commands

Copy the fire script from below and paste into the empty Commands shell
Click Save Firewall.
Wait one minute and then reboot your router.

Is the service plan a one time purchase or does it renew?

All FR service plans automatically renew on a quarterly or annual basis based on the term initially purchased. A reminder e-mail will be sent one week prior to renewal. In your FlashRouter account panel, you can cancel the plan at any time to stop any further renewals.

Does the service plan include a VPN subscription?

To receive a plug and play with VPN device, you will need to provide our team with the credentials from your VPN provider subscription.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not required but recommended for users who wish to have the simplest, most seamless experience when the FlashRouter arrives. You can always change the password when the device arrives if you wish as well.

To have your router VPN pre-configured:

Select Yes from the “Want Your Router Preconfigured?” on the Payment Page during check out.
Select your VPN provider. If you don’t see your VPN listed select “Other” and you will see an additional field to input who your provider is.

Please note: If you do not enter a server location request in “Order Comments”, we will automatically start the device with the closest/optimal server for the location we are shipping the device by default. Our routers are priced for the custom upgrades performed at our warehouse, testing expenses and keeping the FlashRouter App update to date.

Our service plan has three levels as an optional add-on with your purchase to get continued direct assistance from our team. This is especially useful to customers who are less tech savvy and want direct access to our support team to make sure their network is running exactly how they desire. Here is how these plans differ

At this time, we do not provide phone support with our service plans. Do I need a Service Plan for a firmware upgrade?

What does the warranty cover?

Our complimentary 1-year hardware warranty does not include tech support outside. My WiFi password is not working

Keep in mind that passwords are case sensitive.

The preset DD-WRT FlashRouter WiFi password is Wireless#[First 5 characters of your router MAC]. The router MAC can be found on the bottom of your router. For e.g. if your MAC is 1459C07E70A8 then your WiFi password is Wireless#1459C

Verify wireless password

Connect an ethernet cable from a numbered port on the FlashRouter to a computer and access the FlashRouter’s settings.

Navigate to Wireless > Wireless Security

Check the Unmask box and note the wireless password that is entered.

Verify the wireless settings

Make sure that you have WPA2 Personal / AES set as the security settings for all bands. For some router models make sure the CCMP-128 (AES) box is checked for all bands.

Forget network on your device

Wireless devices usually offer a “forget” network feature to remove a wireless network from the saved information of the wireless adapter. If you have updated your WiFi password and are trying to connect on a device that previously used the old WiFi password then removing the wireless network and then trying to connect fresh can help with this issue.

The settings of your FlashRouter do not need to change to connect an extender to the FlashRouter’s network. Simply access the settings of the extender device and enter the FlashRouter’s wireless network name and the correct wireless password.

The extender will then connect via wireless to the FlashRouter and add wireless range to your network.

To use a DD-WRT router as an extender follow our Advanced Wireless Setup Guides.

It is also easy to setup a Mesh system like Orbi or Velop and send your entire Mesh network through the FlashRouter VPN Network, for a VPN connected Mesh Network.

Simply connect from an open LAN port on your FlashRouter to the WAN port on your Mesh base station and then use your Mesh smart apps to complete the setup from there.

Why is my connection speed slower?

The encryption provided by a VPN connection almost always results in slower connection speed. In some cases you may have noticed that your computer or tablet was working faster when running a VPN client application or program, that is because a computer has a processor that is normally about 4-6x times as strong as a the processor on a router, and that is for managing a single VPN connection. A router has a smaller processor and is managing an entire network of devices. Encrypting an entire network does take considerable processing power.

Speed test results while connected to VPN are never going to be accurate. A speed test measures the rate at which a data packet travels from one server to another, however when you are connecting to VPN the data packets travel to an extra server where they are encrypted and then sent back into the route. We strongly recommend disabling the FlashRouter’s VPN connection when testing speeds to make sure there isn’t and issue with the router.

Connection Types

Ethernet: Wired ethernet connections will almost always be the most stable and reliable connection. To speed up your internet connection, use an ethernet cable to wire your devices to the FlashRouter.

Wireless (5.0GHz): The 5.0GHz WiFi frequency has less range than the standard 2.4GHz WiFi, but also transmits your internet connection at a significantly faster speed. If you were previously using the 2.4GHz network and experiencing slow speeds please connect to the 5GHz wireless network which should improve your speed.

Connect to the closest VPN server

Our supported VPN providers offer many servers in different countries and regions. If a server has slower connection speed we recommend connecting to the server closest to your actual location.

Why can’t I send emails while connected to VPN?

Can’t send or receive emails? Connecting to a VPN server can result in your email client not being able to send or receive emails. This can happen for several reasons:

The VPN provider you are connected to is blocking the ports the email client is using (SMTP).
Your email service is blocking access to datacenter IPs
Your email service is only allowing access to residential IPs
Your email service is only allowing access to IPs of its own country
Your email service is only allowing access to certain ISPs

This issue will only occur with email client applications and not with web browser email.

Steps to take if your email is not working

Change SMTP port

Access the settings of your email client and change the SMTP port to 587 or 465.

Change the VPN server

Connect to a different VPN server. The process for changing servers is detailed in your provider’s setup instructions.

Do NOT connect to your VPN provider’s computer, phone, or tablet app while connected to the FlashRouter’s network. This may cause issues with access to your DD-WRT router settings as well as your internet connection.
Connect any device in your home network to VPN by joining the FlashRouter’s network.

Wireless Client Bridge Setup

If you need to extend your wired connection capabilities and you are not able to wire directly into your main router, you can setup a FlashRouter as a Wireless Client Bridge. In Wireless Client Bridge mode the FlashRouter connects to your main router via WiFi, and then transmits your internet signal via the FlashRouter LAN ports for wired internet access anywhere in your home or office.

Preparing for Wireless Client Bridge Setup

Verify your wireless information

In order to setup your FlashRouter as a Wireless Client Bridge, you will need the exact SSID and password of your existing wireless network. Make sure you have this information before proceeding.

We recommend using a 2.4GHz network to repeat as this network will have more range.

Locate the Local IP Address of the existing wireless network

Locate the Local IP Address of the existing router that the FlashRouter will be bridged to.

DD-WRT Router Setup for Wireless Client Bridge

Disable Firewall

Navigate to Security > Firewall

Set SPI Firewall to Disable.
Uncheck all boxes except for Filter Multicast.
Click Save.

Disable DNSmasq

Navigate to Services > Services

Set DNSmasq to Disable.
Click Save.

Enter Wireless settings

Navigate to Wireless > Basic Settings

Wireless Client Bridge Setup on FlashRouter DD-WRT - Set Wireless Mode to Client Bridge

In the Wireless Physical Interface settings for the 2.4GHz network set the Wireless Mode to Client Bridge.
Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) to match exactly with the Wireless Network Name of the network that you will bridge to.
Click Save.

Enter Wireless Security settings

Navigate to Wireless > Wireless Security

Wireless Client Bridge Setup on FlashRouter DD-WRT - Set Wireless Password

Change the WPA Shared Key to match exactly with the Wireless Password of the network that you will bridge to.
Click Save.

Change the FlashRouter's Local IP Address

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

Set the Local IP Address to a different address on the same subnet as the existing network that you noted early. (example: if the existing network is 192.168.1.1 then set the Local IP Address to 192.168.1.2)
Set the Gateway to the Local IP Address of the existing network. (example: 192.168.1.1)
Set the Local DNS to the Local IP Address of the existing network. (example: 192.168.1.1)
Click Apply Settings.

Reboot your FlashRouter

Power off the FlashRouter for 30 seconds and then power it back on. When it boots back up you will be able to access the FlashRouter’s settings at the new Local IP Address that you set. Your existing network and the FlashRouter’s network will now be bridged wirelessly.

Your FlashRouter is now providing wired connection access to your main router network. Wireless connections to the FlashRouter are disabled in this setup.

Back up your settings

Navigate to Administration > Backup

Click the Backup button.
A file named nvrambak.bin will be saved to your computer.
You can load nvrambak.bin to restore your settings in the event of a reset.

Wireless Access Point Setup

A Wireless Access Point is a setup that has the FlashRouter using an existing network’s DHCP instead of assigning its own. The FlashRouter’s WAN/Internet port should be not be connected to your modem or other router while performing this setup.

Preparing for Wireless Access Point Setup

Locate the Local IP Address of the existing wireless network

Locate the Local IP Address of the existing router that the FlashRouter will be bridged to.

DD-WRT Router Setup for Wireless Access Point

Disable Firewall

Navigate to Security > Firewall

Set SPI Firewall to Disable.
Click Save.

Disable DNSmasq

Navigate to Services > Services

Set DNSmasq to Disable.
Click Save.

Change the FlashRouter's Local IP Address

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

Power off the FlashRouter for 30 seconds and connect from the other router’s LAN port to one of the FlashRouter’s LAN port then power it back on. When it boots back up you will be able to access the FlashRouter’s settings at the new Local IP Address that you set.

Preparing for PureVPN GL.iNet Setup

Obtain PureVPN WireGuard file

If you are not already an PureVPN user Sign Up Now.

1. Log in to your account on the PureVPN website.

2. Select Manual Configuration.

3. Select the Server Location you want to connect to and then click Download.

4. In the Select Protocol dropdown choose WireGuard.

5. In the Select Device dropdown choose DD-WRT. Then click Generate Configuration. This will save a .conf file to your computer.

GL.iNet Router Setup for PureVPN

Login to GL.iNet firmware settings in a browser on any computer or smart device connected to the GL.iNet FlashRouter’s network. For more instructions on how to access the firmware settings view our guide here.

1. Navigate to the VPN tab and select WireGuard Client.

2. Click New Group.

3. Enter PureVPN and click the check mark.

4. Select the .conf file you downloaded earlier and upload it here.

5. Click Apply.

6. Select VPN Dashboard.

7. Set the Enable toggle to On to begin the PureVPN connection.

Verify a successful PureVPN connection

You should now see information appear in the Server Address, Server Listen Port, Traffic Statistics, and Client Virtual IP areas.
Visit PureVPN’s IP Check to verify your new IP address and virtual location.

How to change the PureVPN server

Replicate the steps above with a new location.

Why is my router not connecting to internet?

Router not connecting to the internet? Follow these simple steps!

Make sure that you are not setting a WAN IP of 0.0.0.0 in the top right corner of your FlashRouter DD-WRT settings. If you do, then make sure your FlashRouter is wired correctly for Internet.
Try power cycling your ISP modem, FlashRouter and any other router that may be in the setup. Power the modem back on first, wait for it to boot up fully, and then power the FlashRouter back on.
Make sure you do not have Global Kill Switch enabled in the FlashRouters Privacy App and if you do make sure your VPN status is Connected.

Verify a successful ExpressVPN connection

Back up your settings

Navigate to Administration > Backup

Click the Backup button.
A file named nvrambak.bin will be saved to your computer.
You can load nvrambak.bin to restore your settings in the event of a reset.

How to change the ExpressVPN server

Copy the new ExpressVPN server address from the above server list.
Paste the server into the Server IP/Name field.
Click Apply Settings.

How do I schedule a reboot of my FlashRouter?

Schedule a reboot of the FlashRouter to restart your connection. A reboot of your network can help with stability and prevent the connection from slowing down over time.

Navigate to Administration > Keep Alive

Schedule a Reboot in FlashRouter DD-WRT Settings

Enable Schedule Reboot.
Select At a Set Time, and select the time of the day and day of the week you wish to schedule your reboot.
Click Apply Settings.

PureVPN Merlin WireGuard Setup

Preparing for PureVPN Merlin Setup

Download your PureVPN .conf file

If you are not already an PureVPN user Sign Up Now.

1. Log in to your account on the PureVPN website.

2. Select Manual Configuration.

3. Select the Server Location you want to connect to and then click Download.

4. In the Select Protocol dropdown choose WireGuard.

5. In the Select Device dropdown choose DD-WRT. Then click Generate Configuration. This will save a .conf file to your computer.

Merlin Router Setup for PureVPN

Login to Asus Merlin firmware settings in a browser on any computer or smart device connected to the Merlin FlashRouter’s network.

1. Navigate to the VPN tab.

2. Navigate to the VPN Client tab.

3. Select WireGuard as the VPN Protocol.

4. Click Choose file and select the .conf file you downloaded earlier. Then click Upload.

5. In the Description field enter in the name you’d like to use for this WireGuard Client profile. We typically advise entering in the location here.

6. Set Enable WireGuard to Yes.

7. Click Apply at the bottom of the page and you should then see a Connected message appear.

8. By default no devices are assigned to the new active WireGuard connection profile. Click the VPN Director tab to assign specific devices to the new WireGuard profile. Your IP will not be changed on your devices yet.

9. On the VPN Director page click the + symbol next to Add new rule.

10. Select the new WireGuard profile in the Interface dropdown.

11. In the Local IP field enter in 192.168.50.0/24 if you want ALL devices connected to the FlashRouter’s network to use the WireGuard VPN connection. Click OK.

If you only want certain devices to connect to the WireGuard Client profile you have setting up instead of all the devices connected to the FlashRouter’s network please complete the instructions on our VPN Director guide.

12. Then click Apply at the bottom of the page.

Verify a successful PureVPN connection

Visit PureVPN’s IP Check to verify your new IP address and virtual location.

How to change the PureVPN server

Follow the steps at the top of the page to obtain a new .conf file.
Then proceed with the settings same as initial setup.

How do I change the DHCP range of my FlashRouter?

Whenever a device joins the FlashRouter network via wired or WiFi connection the DHCP server on the router gives out a local IP address to each device so all these devices can interact on your local network.

Increase the DHCP range to allow more users to automatically be assigned an IP address or decrease the DHCP range to limit the users that are automatically assigned an IP address.

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

Change DHCP Range in FlashRouter DD-WRT Settings

Under Network Address Server Settings (DHCP) change the Maximum DHCP Users to your preferred value.
You can edit the Start IP Address to 2 and Maximum DHCP Users to 254 for the most available slots.
Click Apply Settings.

Why is my DNS showing as 192.168.11.1 on my devices?

When connected to a FlashRouter’s network the DNS settings of the devices will be reporting as 192.168.11.1. This means that the router is handling DNS internally through the servers you have set in the Setup > Basic Setup section of the router. If you did not set any custom DNS here, then you will using your ISP or VPN DNS servers automatically.

You can always customize the DNS servers in the router to your preferred servers and through DNSmasq the router will use 192.168.11.1 to route these servers to your connected devices.

In some instances disabling DNSMasq in the DD-WRT settings can help unblock previously blocked websites while connected to VPN. This will force devices to report the DNS servers set in the router directly as opposed to 192.168.11.1.

Disabling DNSMasq is not recommended unless FlashRouters specifically advises you but we have seen this work for certain VPN providers. To disable the DNSMasq do the following.

Navigate to Setup > Basic Setup

Uncheck Use DNSMasq for DHCP.
Uncheck Use DNSMasq for DNS.
Uncheck DHCP-Authoritative.
Click Save.

Navigate to Services > Services

Set DNSMasq to Disable.
Click Apply Settings.
Reboot router.
