If NordVPN will not connect on Privacy Hero, shows a timeout error, or stays stuck on Connecting, the router itself may still be working normally.
This is usually caused by an issue with the selected NordVPN server, automatic server selection, or expired NordVPN credentials or token.
First: Confirm Privacy Hero Has Internet
Temporarily turn NordVPN off from the Privacy Hero dashboard and test your internet connection.
- Start a fresh browser session and log in at https://app.privacyhero.com
- Open the VPN section.
- Turn the VPN off.
- Connect a device to the Privacy Hero WiFi and test the internet.
If the internet works normally with the VPN off, your router and internet connection are working. The problem is isolated to the VPN connection.
Use a Specific NordVPN Server
If NordVPN still fails, avoid Auto Country and select a specific NordVPN server instead.
Automatic country selection can occasionally select a server that is unavailable or undergoing maintenance.
An easy way to find a working server is with the NordVPN app:
- Open the NordVPN app on your phone or computer.
- Connect to the country you want to use.
- Open the connection details and note the exact NordVPN server name. It will look similar to us12345.nordvpn.com
- Disconnect and completely close the NordVPN app.
- Open a fresh private/incognito browser window.
- Go to https://app.privacyhero.com
- Open the VPN section and in the NordVPN settings select the Advanced Option.
- Enter the specific NordVPN server instead of using Auto Country.
- Save the settings and reconnect.
Generate a New NordVPN Token for NordLynx
An expired or invalid NordVPN token can prevent NordLynx from connecting.
- Log in to your NordVPN account.
- Generate a new access token.
- Select Does Not Expire when NordVPN provides that option.
- Copy the new token.
- Enter it in the NordVPN setup section of Privacy Hero.
Then try connecting again.
Verify Manual Service Credentials for OpenVPN
Updated or incorrect NordVPN login info can prevent OpenVPN from connecting.
- Log in to your NordVPN account.
- Verify your Manual Service Credentials.
- Enter it in the NordVPN setup section of Privacy Hero.
Then try connecting again.
Important: Do Not Run Two VPNs at Once
Do not leave the NordVPN app connected on your phone or computer while testing the Privacy Hero VPN.
Running a VPN application on the device while also using the router VPN creates a double VPN connection and can cause connection or routing problems.
Verify the Connection
Once Privacy Hero shows the VPN as Connected:
- Connect your device to the Privacy Hero WiFi.
- Open a private/incognito browser window.
- Check your public IP address.
- Confirm that the IP location matches the NordVPN server you selected.
